A Blog Inspired Workshop

May 30, 2013 By: Erlaine2 Comments

Last April 20, 2013, I attended a blog workshop entitled Blog Inspired: Blog With Purpose in Fully Booked Bonifiacio Global City. Behind the success of the workshop were four amazing and truly inspiring mommy bloggers namely, Martine of Dainty Mom, Jayme of Optimommy, Toni of Wifely Steps and Michelle of Beyond the Silver and the Gold.

I came with my mommy blogger friends Faye, Sha, Aimee, Peachy, Maggie and Marsy, whom I met early this year (except for Faye). Unfortunately, our “tribe” was incomplete because the other mommies had scheduled activities with their families. There were a lot of bloggers and soon-to-be bloggers who attended the workshop with the same goal of becoming inspired in blogging.

Do you believe that we are living in this world because we have a PURPOSE in life? Blogging also comes with a purpose.
I was inspired to start this blog of mine as a living document of my family life. My purpose in blogging is to have something to look back to – like an online database of our family adventures, Kelsea’s milestones, life experiences and realizations, must-try food, must-go-to places, etc. But as time goes by, I also wanted to inspire moms about the possibility of working from home.
Here were the Power of Four in action while inspiring bloggers like me to use our blog as a medium towards our purpose in life….
Clockwise: Martine, Jayme, Michelle and Toni

Jayme is a great speaker. Her dream of working in one of the biggest TV networks came true but all changed when she became a mom. Her purpose changed and that’s what her blog is all about. She prepared exercises for the group.

We were divided into 3 groups with the goal of building the highest tower using Jenga-like blocks. This activity taught us that a higher tower doesn’t mean it’s always the better one. One member from each group were ask to blow 5 times at the other team’s tower. And yes you guessed it right, the towers became mid-rise buildings 😉 This shows that whatever we build must have a strong foundation – just like when creating our own blogs.

The next activity was ‘Walk the Path’. Three girls from each team were blindfolded and led outside the room. They were asked to find their way inside the room towards Jayme’s voice.

Sha as our group’s representative

Without an eyesight, they used their sense of hearing and sense of touch to find that voice. There were many obstacles (table, cable wires, chairs) but it did not hinder them going towards their goal which is to find Jayme thru her voice.

This activity is not just for bloggers but for everyone as well. We encounter struggles, sacrifices and trials in life but we must not make these things stop us from reaching our dreams and goals in life.

Jayme also helped us how to find our life purpose. She asked us to:

– Write two (2) unique qualities and talents
– Write two (2) ways we enjoy expressing those qualities when interacting with other
– Answer the the question, “In your PERFECT world, what does it look like?”
– And lastly, create our life purpose by put all the answers above together to make one sentence

Toni, a happily wife, made her blog as a channel for all newly married women. But it didn’t stop there. Her blog not only caters to newly weds but to all wives 🙂 She reminded us to anchor ourselves by being an advocate, an inspiration or a resource which we can apply in our own blogs.

Michelle is a work-at-home mom who is also into homeschooling which became her purpose in blogging. She is sharing her experiences to homeschooling moms and to those who want to try homeschooling. Here are her tips in blogging:

– Have a purpose
– Don’t prioritize earning but prioritize inspiration
– Be sincere
– Go back to your purpose
– Do your due diligence
– Tell your story

Martine is one of the mommy bloggers I look up to because she’s also a work-at-home mom. She gave us pointers to remember on how to write as an inspired blogger.

– Write down ideas all the time.
– Offer unique features.
– Be inspired by your ‘NOW’ moments.
– Connect to link parties, blog communities and workshops.

Since she’s a very talented creative writer, Martine shared with us the anatomy of a good blog post:

Headline: This is the blog post title.
Grabber: Find ways on how to hook your readers immediately.
Heart: Share meaningful main points
Call to Action: Give readers something to walk away with.

Currently, I’m taking little steps in making this blog of mine more meaningful and inspiring. I just need to find more time to blog regularly 🙂

I had fun in this workshop. I considered myself being lucky since this was their first workshop about blogging and it was FREE 🙂 It was also my “me-time” and gave me the chance to meet other bloggers as well.

Here’s our group shot after the workshop….

After the workshop, I had lunch with Faye, Sha, Maggie, Aimee and Marsy in Serendra. It was great catching up with their stories. After lunch, Sha, Maggie and I met Maqui (a good friend and the mommy blogger behind Familia Kiki) for her kikay project. I am a bit clueless too about make-up so I got to benefit also from the kikay tips of Sha and Maggie. Got my own loot too! 🙂
I’m happy blogging because not only I’m gearing towards my purpose but also making new friendships with fabulous moms. 🙂

Care to share your purpose in blogging or your main purpose in life? I’d love to know yours! 🙂
