The Travel Packing Cubes and Tips on How to Pack for a Family Trip

November 21, 2012 By: Erlaine4 Comments

Every time I travel, I want to pack light and as much as possible organized. So, in preparation for our Hong Kong trip a few weeks ago, I bought TRAVEL PACKING CUBES from Kitkat of Kalea’s Food Confections who is a high school batch mate of mine. By the way, her cakes and cupcakes are yummy! Try them!

I bought the 5-pc set since it is very affordable and with good quality.

We stayed in HK for 4 days and 3 nights so one large luggage bag and one hand-carry bag with Kelsea’s immediate needs (plus my shoulder bag, of course) are good enough for the three of us.

Here’s how I packed all our clothes and important things to bring….

I used the biggest cube for hubby’s and my clothes. I didn’t bring jeans because it weighs a lot so I only brought light clothes (blouses, leggings & shorts) and those that don’t wrinkle too much. Mark’s clothes were mostly shirts and shorts. He wore jeans going there. We only brought a few extra tops since the weather in HK during November is a little cool already.

I read somewhere that it is space-saving to roll up clothes when packing. But I decided to fold our clothes this way….

The next size of the cube was used for Kelsea’s clothes. Traveling with a 4-year-old, especially playful ones, means bringing lots of extra clothes. So here’s her pack…

The next size of the cube I assigned for our towels. We didn’t stay in a hotel but in a 3-bedroom furnished apartment so we were told to bring our own towels. (But the host provided towels when we arrived).

The next size was used for some toiletries and some gadget chargers which I wasn’t able to include in this next picture.

The smallest cube was used for our undergarments and Kelsea’s socks 😉

All cubes were filled-up! Look at this tower….

Aside from this, we had a separate toiletries pouch which includes our shampoo, conditioner, soap, deodorant, feminine wash, facial wash, cotton buds, razor, toothbrush and toothpaste. It is best to bring sachets or those in pet bottles so save space.

Take a look at the insides of our luggage bag…

Pleasing to the eyes, right? And no clutter 🙂 Sandals and slippers were put in the luggage bag’s pockets. I also put here Kelsea’s milk in sealed box because I might not find Nido in HK. I was also able to save space because she’s not wearing diapers anymore 🙂

Be also reminded that liquids/gels in more than 100ml containers must be put in check-in luggage and prohibited in hand-carry ones.

I mentioned awhile ago that one of our hand-carry bags is Kelsea’s. It was a diaper bag that can be used as a travel bag made by Manila Baby Shop, owned by known mommy blogger Manila Mommy, which I was reselling before. Sorry I wasn’t able to take a picture of it but what’s inside it were Kelsea’s:

– extra clothes
– jacket
– first aid kit
– medicines
– milk
– snacks
– and kiddie stuff (light-weight books, coloring book, crayons, puzzles) which kept her occupied in the airplane

Then in my shoulder bag are my personal effects, our passports in Shopping Spells’ passport holder and e-tickets. It is also advisable to hand-carry or wear your sweater/jacket instead of putting inside check-in luggage because it can be very cold in the airport and your destination.

Another tip for your checked-in luggage especially if they are neutral in color like ours is to put a colored luggage tag or tie a ribbon so you can easily find them in the luggage conveyor and not be mistaken for somebody else’s luggage.

I hope I was able to help others who are having a hard time packing their stuff when traveling. Pack light and leave some space your shopping items 🙂 See you around (the world)! 🙂

Hi! Is your friend. Kitkat, still selling those travel packing cubes? I tried searching for them online but I can’t find them 🙁 I’ve been searching for packing cubes that are of quality and cheap, with a mesh cover, and those are the perfect ones for me but I can’t seem to find it
