Outreach Program: Dental Mission

October 9, 2012 By: Erlainecomment

I recently joined a professional and internationally-known organization called Kiwanis. I, together with my friend and Avida manager Ate L, were invited by one of my Avida prospect clients to join their club. Our business meeting became a door to a more fulfilling life…”Serving the Children of the World“.

The club president of our chapter and his dentist wife planned our first outreach program by giving dental services (such as tooth extraction) to the community of San Marino City in Dasmarinas, Cavite. After dropping off Kelsea in school, hubby and I headed straight to the venue. As early as 8am, there were already a lot of people, most especially kids, waiting for the dental mission to start.

They were given forms to fill-up which included a dental card (for records purposes). They were given numbers so they just have to wait for their turn when their number and names are called.

Registration

I volunteered myself to help getting their blood pressure but there was an invited nurse so I just did the medical history questioning and recording of their blood pressure in their dental cards.

It’s fun mingling with different kinds of people again. Most of them were kids having teeth not taken cared of and a few adults who took advantage of the free services. One lady even had four teeth extracted. Imagine that!

To keep them entertained while waiting, an invited pastor shared the good news of the Lord.

After the dental services, patients were given free medicines like mefenamic acid and antibiotics. For the kids, paracetamol in syrup were provided.

Hubby and I also brought toothpaste sachets to give away to encourage them to take care of their teeth. Their thanks you’s were very much appreciated.

The event is up to 2pm but we left early to fetch Kelsea from school. But before saying our goodbyes to them, I safe this kid playing with his toy. I can’t help but take a picture 🙂
