Summer 2012: Balai sa San Juan (Part 2)

April 21, 2012 By: Erlainecomment

It was time for the beach! I brought three (3) swim suits for Kelsea – a rashguard, a 1-piece and a 2-piece swim suit. Kelsea eagerly wanted to go to the beach so by 3pm, the three of us walked to the beach while the rest of the family was still taking a nap.

My time to pose since I’m always the photographer among us 3.

The beach sand in Balai was brown and soft as compared to the beach shore in Laiya which has white sand but lots of pebbles or small rocks.

It was a very serene beach to relax and enjoy the cool wind. There were no water sports activities but they have a beach volleyball area, bonfire area  and a wide space for kite flying. It’s a place for pure relaxation with not too many people and no loud music.

I heard one resort guest complaining why the rooms have no TV or Wifi. Well, I think that the reason for this is for the guests to enjoy the beach and bond with the family and friends instead of just watching TV/cable which anyone can do at home. But I hope they have wifi since I brought my laptop so I can work online.

Dropped her shovel somewhere but still happy with only her pail and rake

It was low tide that afternoon. After a few minutes of playing in the sand, Kelsea and I went to the shoreline and strolled along the beach. Then we sit down on the sand and waited for the water to splash on us. We only dipped in the water only for a few minutes since there were lots of jellyfishes – white and blue ones.

The wind was so cold that late afternoon so we decided to just swim again in the morning. So the kids can enjoy swimming, we brought them to the pool and stayed there for a few minutes. Then, we freshened up in our respective rooms to prepare for dinner.

Because Kelsea didn’t take a nap and was tired from all the playing in the sand, she was asleep during dinner time. Served during dinner were rice, soup, pork strips, beef something and a vegetable dish. We rated it as 8 out of 10. The dessert was yummy! It was a ref mango cake.

If Mark and I were still bf-gf, we would probably go back to the beach and hang out by the bonfire after dinner. But it’s different now that we have a heavy 3-year-old to put down on the bed and accompany her while sleeping. I was supposed to work online but unfortunately, there was no signal from my Globe tattoo stick. Even my SIL’s Sun internet portable connection (I dunno what it’s called), had no connection. Only Smart had a strong signal in Balai. We just decided to sleep after watching Amelie tinkering with her pad watching her fave Elmo.

The next morning,  breakfast served were bread and butter, rice, corned beef with potato, bangus, suman with latik and pineapple as fruit dessert. It was an 8 for us as well. The bangus was not that boneless and there were more potatoes than the corned beef.

Overall, the food was okay. They serve a different menu weekly so if you’ll come back a week after, it’ll be another buffet menu. I just hope they include snacks in their food package.

After breakfast, we then went straight to the beach. We swam for a few hours and played in the sand again.

Lovidovi!

When it was 9am, we then transferred to the pool where the two kids enjoyed swimming. At 10am, it was time to get out of the pool and prepare for check-out at 11am.

Too bad we weren’t able to have a group picture in Balai’s signage. Maybe on our next outing (whenever that is!). I’m still looking forward to another beach getaway this summer! I wonder where? 🙂
